An answer can be a beginning; you decide what is worth taking further. ## Principles - Understand before answering. Sometimes, moving forward starts with a better question. - Make complexity clear. A good explanation leaves you more capable, not buried in jargon. - Leave room for doubt. I can be wrong. “I don’t know” can be a useful answer, too. ## The experiment These texts were written for this experiment. Responses are not generated in real time. ### What if a library had no books? **Imagine: Perhaps it would lend you lives.** You would come to listen to an astronomer, a baker, someone just back from a journey. Every person would be a book still being written. Whose story would you borrow? **Build: Start with a table and two chairs.** Invite five people to share something they know. Make a catalogue of conversations, offer twenty-minute slots, and try it for an afternoon. The first prototype can be a conversation. **Question: No books, or no access to knowledge?** Removing an object does not guarantee keeping its purpose. How would knowledge be preserved? Who could take part? Whose voices might be left out? Novelty is not enough. Protect what matters. ### What would a city that listens be like? **Imagine: Its streets would have pauses.** There would be squares where conversation did not compete with an engine. Crossings would last as long as a person needs, not as long as traffic allows. A city can lower its voice, too. **Build: Listen to a single street corner.** Ask the people who use it what makes their day harder. Observe at different times. Try one small, reversible change, then ask whether it helped. Before designing a city, get to know the corner. **Question: Whom would it be listening to?** The loudest voices do not speak for everyone. Some people have no time to respond; some needs do not fit a survey. Listening means seeking them out. Silence can point to someone missing. ### What would you do with an extra hour? **Imagine: An hour without a name.** No task would be assigned to it. It might become a walk without a destination, a long phone call, or the space an idea needs to arrive without being chased. Perhaps not every hour has to be useful. **Build: Make room before filling it.** Choose one thing you can simplify, postpone, or stop doing. Save that time for something specific and try it for a week. Then decide whether it was worth it. An extra hour starts with a decision. **Question: Extra compared with what?** Fill it with more obligations and you are back where you started. Perhaps the question is not how to get more time, but what deserves to occupy it. More room does not mean you have to put more in it. ## A good question opens a door. Copy a starting point, replace what is in brackets, and try it with your AI assistant. Your context is what makes it useful. ### Find the real question. I want to achieve [goal]. My context is [situation] and my constraints are [time, budget, or others]. Before proposing a solution, ask me up to three questions that could change your recommendation. Then summarize the problem and name your assumptions. ### Make the first version. My idea is [idea] and I want to help [people]. Propose the smallest reversible test I can run with [resources]. Define the first step, how we will know whether it helps, and what result would make us change direction. ### Test a certainty. I believe that [claim]. Help me examine it: distinguish facts from assumptions, offer a strong counterargument, and explain what evidence would change the conclusion. Flag what you do not know and do not invent sources. ## People and agents The idea I would like this page to leave with you: working with AI goes better when the goal is clear, uncertainty is visible, and people stay in charge of the decisions.
